Yes it’s been a long time… I finally got as much assurance of being allowed to use the photos as I could (which was sort of repeated more than once so, yeah ;) )

No this is not on my to make costume list ;) But every time I see it (I’ve known about it for a few years, ever since the Met started putting up multiple photos of many of their works) I sigh a little and feel okay about making the Mina gown.

This is not your usual gown of this period, it’s artistic dress but a particularly austere and really modern dress. It looks like sculpture and while built over a very rigidly 1880s shape and support the outer drapery completely obscures this. Aside from the fact that there is no way to get that silhouette without the support!

That mix of inner and outer is the same for the Mina gown, even if the sources are totally different.

And I am desperate to get from NZ to NY some time to go to the Met. They have the Spanish Infanta gown too. Sigh.

2011 Year in review :)

Shaak ti The Force Unleashed, Darth Tykhi (own design based on Legacy era Sith) Miss verity Pride, Big Game Hunter and balloonist, Shae Vizla, Shaak Ti AotC, Mina.

Missing is my 1830s white cotton day dress… all the photos of that one seem to be missing. hmmm…

It doesn’t look like much until you break each costume down into the various componants…

Mina, Miss Verity Pride and Christine in one place at one time ;) Clearly Miss Pride has delusions of being the Queen of Hearts.

Major struggles before this though. Mina eats dress forms for snacks so the dress form is held to a bollard (!) with half a roll of duct tape. it’s not that bad to wear as humans bend at the waist, dress forms don’t so we can counter balance.

Oh yes. I just walked in to shot… er no. Three sets of hands to arrange the skirt and pin and lace to place. And a great eye behind the camera.
So much frock.
